Mr.Zhang has been practicing law in China since 1997. His practice covers foreign direct investment in China and overseas investment by Chinese companies, energy law，the corporate compliance, entertainment law,dispute resolution(arbitration and mediation).
Mr.Zhang has more than 20 years of experience in both private legal practice and in-house corporate experience.He started his legal career as associate with Paul, Weiss (New York and Beijing) and subsequently with White&Case(Shanghai). In 2006, Mr.Zhang joined Baker Botts (Beijing) as partner and Beijing Chief Representative after working as in-house counsel at ABB. Prior to joining Broad&Bright to head its energy practice in 2015, Mr.Zhang served as Head of Legal M&A, Asia&Australia at Siemens and supervised more than 20 M&A and JV projects in less than 3 years.In 2019, he joined ENN Croup as its general counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.In 2022, Mr.Zhang joined King&Capital(Beijing)as senior partner to lead its foreign-related legal affairs.
Mr.Zhang is an arbitrator for CIETAC and Beijing Arbitration Commission. He was specially recognized as an arbitrator in the energy-related disputes. He is the reporter of the Beijing Arbitration Commission Energy Dispute Resolution Annual Observation Reports in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, and author of a chapter on China's oil and gas industry in Chambers'2017 publication,the Global Practice Guide:Energy: Oil and Gas. Mr.Zhang is also an arbitrator for HKIAC, OHADA and ASA.
As external counsel:
- Served as“Chinese energy law”expert witness to give expert opinion and testify in an ad-hoc arbitration proceeding in London under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules for a PSA dispute between an NOC and a foreign company.
- Advised ConocoPhillips on PRC law in its farm-out dispute with another foreign company for CBM project in an arbitration proceeding in Singapore International Arbitration Center(SIAC).
- Advised ConocoPhillips in negotiation and settlement with the SOA and relevant issues relating to the oil spill in Bohai Bay.
- Advised a Chinese client in an oil and gas field and a gas power plant project in the Republic of Chad.
- Advised a Chinese client in establishing a Uzbekistan LNG project company.
- Represented a Chinese client in providing legal services for acquisition of 300MW wind power project in Ukraine.
- As PRC counsel,advised on HP,Inc.’s acquisition of Samsung’s global printing business(worth US$1.05 billion),including all its China-based manufacturing business and sales network,providing all legal services from due diligence stage to closing of the transaction.
- Advised Jingneng Oil and Gas Resources Development Co.,Ltd.for its business activities in Keping north oil and gas exploration project in Tarim Basin,Xinjiang as permanent legal advisor.
- Advised Shenergy Group Co.,Ltd.in the acquisition of Indonesia Kasuri Block Project.
- Advised AAG Energy Holdings Limited on the problems encountered in the operation of Mabi Block and Panzhuang Block in Shanxi.
- Advised Sanya Changfeng New Energy Investment Co.,Ltd.on its natural gas pipeline project in Zhaoqing,Guangdong.
- Advised Xinjiang Guanghui(a public company listed on SSE)to negotiate for an acquisition of 49%equity interests in a company which holds license for an oil and gas block in Kazakhstan and for financing for the upstream and downstream operations.
- Advised Sinochem in its investment in Brazil in acquisition of 40%stake in the Peregrino oil field from Statoil for$3.07 billion.
- Advised a Chinese private company in investing in an oil&gas field in Texas.
As in-house counsel
- Assisted ABB in establishing a joint venture in the automation sector;assisted ABB in bidding to various projects.
- Assisted Siemens with numerous joint ventures and M&As in energy,city infrastructures,healthcare and other sectors.
- Assisted ENN Group with investment and M&A projects in energy trading and investment in upstream,midstream and downstream sectors.
- Assisted ENN Group and its subsidiaries with general/corporate matters.
- Building and improving a comprehensive compliance system for ENN Group

In 2014, his M&A team at Siemens won the ILO Asia-Pacific award of the best in-house M&A team of the year.
Mr.Zhang received his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1997 and B.A.in economics from the University of International Business and Economics in 1987.
