On March 25, 2026, Attorney Liu Lijie, Head of the Second Criminal Law Department and Senior Partner at King&Capital Law Firm, was invited to China University of Political Science and Law to deliver a lecture titled “First Principles of Economic Crime Defense” as part of the “Criminal Defense and Representation Practice” course series, offering students an in-depth exploration that seamlessly integrates theory and practice.

Drawing on his extensive professional experience, Attorney Liu Lijie elaborated on the concept of “first principles.” Using multiple typical cases as examples, he provided a detailed analysis of the characteristics of economic crime cases, such as voluminous case files, complex assets involved, and high industry-specific expertise. He shared defense strategies and successful experiences from various types of economic crime cases, gradually guiding students to reflect on the “first principles” of criminal defense. In conclusion, Attorney Liu summarized that the “first principle” of criminal defense is information. By providing a wealth of valuable information, one can prompt judicial authorities to question their existing findings, encourage them to re-examine the facts of the case, and arrive at a reasonable new interpretation favorable to the client, ultimately achieving an effective defense.

As a master’s and doctoral graduate of China University of Political Science and Law, Attorney Liu Lijie has long been involved in teaching and practical training at his alma mater. In his capacity as a practice mentor and chief researcher at the Center for Financial Crime Research, he actively supports academic-practical exchanges and the development of practical legal education. This lecture further strengthened the cooperative relationship between King&Capital Law Firm and China University of Political Science and Law, providing robust support for the cultivation of legal talent.
