In January 2013, King and Capital Law Firm were nominated for Litigation Law Firm of the Year and Corporate Citizen Law Firm of the Year at the 2013 China Law Awards.
In 2012, King and Capital were leaders in the litigation business, whilst also making a great effort to develop their non-litigation portfolio. King and Capital has a number of lawyers with significant litigation experience, particularly in complicated cases, and the firm increased its number of litigious cases in 2012.
In the criminal law area, King and Capital Law Firm engaged in the well-known “Wu Ying” case, representing Wu Ying from case at first instance, to the review of death sentences. The case had significant repercussions and caused widespread discussion because it involved difficulties in the development of private enterprises, reform of the financial system and the death penalty system of China. King and Capital was very dedicated to the case, which lasted 5 years, and in April 2012 Supreme People’s Court decided against the death penalty for Wu Ying.
In 2012, King and Capital Law Firm engaged in numerous complicated cases involving “forming or leading organizations in the nature of criminal syndicate”. The cases involved a number of suspects, serious duty crimes and fraud. Some of the cases were supervised and handled by the Ministry of Public Security of China.
In the civil law area, King and Capital specializes in contract disputes, real estate disputes, tort disputes, and various other matters.
King and Capital Law Firm successfully represented a client in a shareholder qualification dispute, in which the value of the object was more than 1 billion RMB. King and Capital also engaged in a dozen contract dispute,in which the value of the objects were worth more than 100 million RMB.
King and Capital has also be dedicated to the statutory construction of China and broadcasting the Chinese legal system to the world, as well as protecting human rights.
Lead by Tian Wen-Chang, Director of King and Capital, the Firm submitted the "Lawyers Edition" for the 2012 Criminal Procedure Law of China to the legislature. It represented law firms in China to receive foreign delegations to introduce Chinese law and the system of lawyers in China. In 2012 King and Capital welcomed delegations from the Ministry of Justice of Finland, judges from the members of SCO, officers from the British Embassy and Dalian Consular Office of the Republic of Korea. In addition, Mr, Tian Wen-Chang participated in the Sino-US Seminar on Justice and Human Rights, the 22nd EU-China Human Rights Seminar and the 5th Sino-US Legal Expert Exchange.
King and Capital emphasizes the cultivation of law school students. They support a number of activities held by student clubs at Peking University and China University of Political Science and Law. Providing law students with advice on legal study and employment is important to King and Capital.
In 2012, King and Capital held the "Spring Water Programme" which aims to provide material and spiritual help to students from poor families. Seven children were chosen to join a support group with lawyers from King and Capital. Further to providing the children with fellowships, the lawyers support the students in all aspects of daily life, including their emotional concerns.
