Working experience

Lecturing at China University of Political Science and Law from 1983-1995, lawyer Tian Wenchang was successively deputy head of the Department of Law and graduate supervisor. From 1985, he began working part-time as a lawyer, before setting up King & Capital Law Firm in 1995 and turning professional. Lawyer Tian Wenchang gained renown in recent years for successfully handling a large amount of cases, as well as for specializing in various kinds of classical and difficult legal affairs. His name has been included in the Contemporary Chinese Middle and Young Scholars’ Dictionary and Compilation of Famous Chinese Education Experts. CCTV programs such as “Oriental Sons”, “Getting Down to Brass Tacks”, “360 Professions”, “Face to Face” and “Personalities” have interviewed lawyer Tian Wenchang numerous times. Lawyer Tian Wenchang enjoys the epithet of “the scholarly lawyer”, with a rich record of education, research and case-handling. He has published millions of words in academic articles, translations, monographs and education materials.

Lawyer Tian Wenchang currently serves as Director of the Criminal Affairs Committee, All China Lawyers Association. During this time, he oversaw development of China’s first voluntarily code of conduct for lawyers, the “Lawyers’ Code of Conduct in Handling Criminal Cases”; the establishment of China’s first nationwide lawyers’ website, “Criminal Defense Online”; as well as the drafting and publication of China’s first “Draft Lawyers Suggestions for Amending the Criminal Procedure Law” to be drafted and published in the name of a lawyers association. As a lawyer involved in China’s criminal legislation activities, Tian Wenchang staunchly defended the lawyer’s position in legislative work, gave voice to lawyers and promotes legislative and judicial reform. As a lawyer with profound academic nous and rich experience, Tian Wenchang has participated in international human rights dialog as a member of the China human rights delegation on several occasions.
