On the morning of February 19, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen Branch of the Advanced Institute of Criminal Defense of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law was held in Shenzhen. The event was hosted by the Institute of Advanced Studies in Criminal Defense of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law, undertaken by Guangdong Xiaofeng Law Firm, and co-organized by Guangdong Ge'ang Law Firm. "Theme Salon Activity of "Criminal Defense Critics Talking about Criminal Defense

In the afternoon of the same day, Lawyer Tian Wenchang, Associate Professor Men Jinling and Lawyer Liang Yali were invited to participate in the theme salon activity of "Criminal Defense Critics Talking about Criminal Defense".

Mr. Tian Wenchang pointed out in the activity that China's criminal defense lawyers are facing three major problems: firstly, the standardization of lawyers' practice behavior; secondly, the professionalization of lawyers' practice skills; and thirdly, the scientificization of law firms' management mode. Mr. Tian Wenchang earnestly hoped that through the role of the Institute of Advanced Criminal Defense Studies, the standardization of practice concepts, improve practice skills, the establishment of a scientific basis for the management of the distribution mechanism, to promote the healthy, normal and high-speed development of China's criminal defense industry.

In her speech, Associate Professor Men Jinling introduced her research path from scholar to criminal defense practice, emphasized the close relationship between theory and practice in criminal defense research, and pointed out that a deep theoretical immersion would effectively help lawyers to quickly find out the controversial points and arguments of the case, effectively carry out the defense reasoning, and establish a sense of conviction in criminal defense.

In her speech, Ms. Liang elaborated on her understanding of the specialization of criminal defense, shared her experience in cultivating the professionalism of lawyers, and suggested that young lawyers do not need to limit themselves to their own practice areas, but should choose their own practice areas in accordance with their own foundations, characteristics, and dreams. At the same time, Attorney Liang Yali also sent a message to the majority of young lawyers: "Focus because you like it, pursue excellence, the road of criminal defense, we walk together."

Finally, Professor Feng Weiguo, Dean of the School of Criminal Law of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law, commented on the basic theory of criminal defense, judicial practice of criminal defense, and the professionalism of criminal defense from the perspective of the content shared by all the sharers. Dean Feng believes that: for a long time, China's theoretical community lacks in-depth research on the basic theory of criminal defense, so that the development of China's criminal defense has been fundamentally limited; at present, in the judicial practice of criminal defense, China's criminal defense lawyers are still subjected to a lot of limitations, so that the function, value and role of the function is still very insufficient; in terms of the world's development trend of criminal defense, criminal defense professionalism is the way that our country's criminal In terms of the development trend of criminal defense in the world, the professionalism of criminal defense is a necessary path for the development of criminal defense lawyers in China, which can be strengthened in terms of expanding the professional field, setting up the industry slot, and professional learning, etc., especially the professionalism of the young criminal defense lawyers.
