Recently, China Arbitration Summit 2024 & China-MENA Arbitration Summit was successfully held in Beijing. The forum was co-organized by the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), together with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI) and the All China Lawyers Association (ACLA).

At the forum site, Wang Chengjie, Deputy Director and Secretary General of CIETAC, presided over the release of the 2024 Initiative on International Arbitration Cooperation, an important achievement aimed at strengthening cooperation on the rule of law in international arbitration. The Initiative states that international arbitration is an irreplaceable dispute resolution mechanism for cross-border commercial disputes. In order to deepen international cooperation in arbitration, we should continue to uphold fairness and justice, and guarantee the transparency and independence of arbitration; deepen cultural exchanges in arbitration, and advocate open and win-win cooperation; actively seek judicial support, and strengthen the cross-border enforcement of awards; join hands to make good use of scientific and technological innovations, and concentrate on the realization of green arbitration; unite the synergy of multi-disciplinary dispute resolution, and enhance the level of arbitration services; and cooperate with the cultivation of talents, and establish the foundation for future development.

Under the theme of “International Arbitration Across the Era”, more than 30 Chinese and foreign experts from arbitration law, corporate practice and academia from 17 countries and regions focused on the theme of “Era of Integration: Building a Concentric Circle of Global Arbitration” and “Era of Change: Focusing on International Arbitration”. More than 30 Chinese and foreign experts from 17 countries and regions in the field of arbitration law, corporate practice and academia delivered keynote speeches on the topics of “Era of Convergence: Building a Concentric Circle of Global Arbitration”, “Era of Change: Focusing on the New Development of International Arbitration” and “Era of Digital: Embracing the New Trend of Smart Connection of Everything”. The Summit Forum provided an opportunity for Chinese and foreign arbitrators to discuss the latest development of international arbitration, modernization of arbitration rules, application of digital technology in arbitration, and improvement of cross-border dispute resolution mechanism.
The Summit Forum has set up a high-profile platform for Chinese and foreign arbitration circles to plan for the development of international arbitration and discuss the cooperation of international arbitration, and the participating parties have reached a broad consensus on jointly promoting the exchange and mutual understanding, cooperation and development of international arbitration and achieved practical results, which is of great significance to further deepen the inter-regional arbitration and legal cooperation, promote the development of the cause of international arbitration, and safeguard the order of global trade and economic cooperation. More than 500 legal and business people from 47 countries and regions participated in the conference on site, and more than 5.03 million people from 76 countries and regions watched it online.
