On 19 December 2024, the ‘Humanitarian Law Research and Service Base’ of the International Academy of the Red Cross (IARC) was inaugurated at King&Capital Law Firm in Beijing. Tian Wenchang, Honorary Director of King&Capital Law Firm and Honorary Dean of the Institute for Advanced Criminal Defence of Northwest University of Political Science and Law, and Wang Rupeng, President of ICRC, jointly opened the base. He said that the establishment of the Humanitarian Law Research and Service Base at King&Capital Law Firm was aimed at giving full play to the resources and advantages of the firm and its alumni, further strengthening legal research in the field of humanitarian public welfare, establishing a position for humanitarian public welfare legal services, attracting more knowledgeable people in the legal profession and academia to participate in volunteer services, and promoting the improvement and progress of China's humanitarian law. and promote the improvement and progress of China's humanitarian law.

In his speech, Tian Wenchang said that the Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation, which is of great significance in the international arena, and that ‘the combination of the three words, Red Cross, humanitarian and law, is even more significant.’ He said that King&Capital is honoured to play a role in promoting the legal research and practice of humanitarian public welfare undertakings in the capacity of ‘Humanitarian Law Research and Service Base’ community. It is believed that the establishment of the base can effectively promote the participation of King&Capital people in the development of humanitarian law volunteer work.

Public information shows that the International College of the Red Cross was jointly founded by the Red Cross Society of China, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation and Soochow University, and was established on 31 August 2019 at Soochow University, which is the first Red Cross specialised college in the world, and is a teaching and research institution dedicated to the study of the Red Cross movement, the training of humanitarian and public welfare talents, the dissemination of the Red Cross culture and international academic exchanges.
