On March 14th, 2025, the 12th “King&Capital Cup” Criminal Mock Trial Competition pre-competition training meeting was successfully held in the second staircase classroom of Duansheng Building. The training session invited Mr. Qi Xiaoling, Mr. Zhou Wenda and Mr. Liu Xin from Beijing King&Capital Law Firm and Taihetai (Beijing) Law Firm as the guest speakers. From different perspectives, the three lawyers brought a detailed and professional training session to hundreds of law students in the audience.

At the training session, Mr. Qi Xiaoling, with the topic of “Core Logic of Court Debate”, talked about the importance of pre-trial preparation, the focus of court debate and the game relationship between prosecution, defense and trial, which gave the students a deeper understanding of the professional ethics of criminal defense lawyers.

Mr. Qi mentioned that lawyers must distinguish between “defending client's interests” and “self-expression”. “A lawyer is fighting for his client's rights and interests, not a personal performance. Even if the audience applauds, if the judge is unwilling to accept your point of view, the performance is meaningless.”

Mr. Zhou Wenda took the topic of “‘Paper Talk’” to 'Court Sharpness'”, combined with personally handled cases as an example, from the perspective of the core skills of criminal defense lawyers. From the perspective of the core skills of criminal defense lawyers, he specifically discussed the argumentation skills and remedial strategies that lawyers should have in the three aspects of pre-trial, in-court and post-court, which made the sharing content fascinating.

Mr. Zhou insisted on the belief of “leaving a person under the knife” and emphasized that “even if the result of the first trial is unfavorable to the client, never give up the last argument”, which benefited the students a lot.

Liu Xin from 15 years of experience in public prosecution, combined with their own career transition experience, from the perspective of the prosecutor for the students to explain the “public prosecutor needs to build a complete chain of evidence, lawyers need to tear open a reasonable doubt” of the prosecution and defense of the logic of the work of the two sides, and cited an example of how to deal with the unexpected problems faced in the trial, put forward a lot of professional advice.

In the face of the students on the psychological balance of the prosecutor's question, she made it clear that: “the public prosecutor's sense of honor far exceeds the income, the Constitution gives the prosecutor's duty is priceless.

During the interactive stage of the training session, students actively asked questions to the guests, covering various fields and perspectives, such as legal career development planning, practical skills of court trial, difficult case analysis, etc., and demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm for participation.

Combined with their own practical experience and typical cases, the guests patiently answered specific questions such as the key points of evidence chain construction, professional principles and duties, and guided students to think deeply about the logic of legal application. The atmosphere of the exchange was active, and warm applause and laughter broke out from time to time.
