On May 6, 2026, the “King&Capital Law Firm Research Center for Criminal Defense in Financial and Securities Cases” was officially inaugurated in Beijing. The inauguration ceremony was attended by experts and scholars including Professor Fan Chongyi, Honorary Dean of the Institute of Procedural Law at China University of Political Science and Law; Tian Wenchang, Founder and Honorary Director of King&Capital Law Firm; Professor Wang Jianbo, Executive Director of the Research Center for Integrity and the Rule of Law at Capital University of Economics and Business; and Associate Professor Liu Chuangao from the School of Law at Capital University of Economics and Business, as well as dozens of lawyer representatives. The event was presided over by Attorney Weng Xiaoping, Senior Partner at King&Capital Law Firm and Deputy Director of the “Kyoto Financial and Securities Criminal Defense Research Center.”

Professor Fan Chongyi, a leading authority in the field of law, extended his congratulations on the establishment of the “Kyoto Financial and Securities Criminal Defense Research Center.” He noted that the establishment of the research center—as an organizational structural change—reflects King&Capital Law Firm’s path of development toward specialization, professionalization, and categorization, as well as the integration of professional practice and academic research. He believes that the establishment of the research center embodies the implementation of the “Six Major Commitments” proposed in the Central Committee’s 14th Five-Year Plan, particularly the theme of “high-quality development.”
Attorney Tian Wenchang delivers a speech

Attorney Tian Wenchang noted that the establishment of the Research Center demonstrates that King&Capital Law Firm’s research direction is becoming increasingly refined, reflecting a research methodology that tends to “make a big deal out of small issues.” He pointed out that a series of problems exist in current financial and securities defense practice, including phenomena of judicial imbalance, making in-depth research necessary. He emphasized that King&Capital Law Firm should become an important platform for integrating theory and practice, mobilizing internal resources, consulting experts and scholars, and utilizing the platform to make its own efforts and contributions.

Professor Wang Xin of Peking University was invited to serve as an advisor to the “Kyoto Financial Securities Criminal Defense Research Center” and delivered a keynote speech on “The Determination of Presumptive Insider Trading.” Professor Wang Xin noted that King&Capital Law Firm is a long-established and renowned firm specializing in criminal defense, having published annual reports on securities crime for many years. With its deep expertise in the field of financial and securities crime defense, he extended his warm congratulations on the establishment of the center.

Chu Changzhi, Managing Partner and CEO of King&Capital Law Firm, delivered a welcome address on behalf of the firm. He stated, “The Center’s lawyers are capable of interpreting financial statements and understanding capital operations, and can provide integrated services by mobilizing legal resources nationwide—this is an inevitable trend of the times.” He also proposed three development goals for the Center: “resource sharing, business collaboration, and unified standards,” expressing his hope for a successful inauguration and vigorous growth of the Research Center.

In his speech, Attorney Zhang Qiming, Director of the “King&Capital Law Firm Financial Securities Criminal Defense Research Center,” stated, “The establishment of the King&Capital Law Firm Financial Securities Criminal Defense Research Center is built upon King&Capital Law Firm’s solid foundation in criminal defense, represents the passing of the torch from King&Capital Law Firm’s veteran attorneys, and marks the culmination of years of accumulated expertise in financial securities criminal defense at King&Capital Law Firm”; The Center’s mission is to integrate resources, strengthen theoretical research, enhance defense skills, and deliver higher-quality legal services; guided by the core principles of progressiveness, openness, and sharing, the Center will collaborate with universities, research institutions, financial institutions, and law firms to conduct joint research, thereby integrating theory and practice and elevating them to new heights.
The event concluded successfully, and the “King&Capital Law Firm Criminal Defense Research Center” was officially inaugurated.
