On May 28, 2026, the King&Capital Center for Civil and Commercial Litigation organized its first seminar on complex cases, focusing on key issues related to a case involving a senior executive accused of harming the company’s interests in the context of the intersection of criminal and civil law. Zhu Yonghui, Director of King&Capital Law Firm; Chu Changzhi, Managing Partner and CEO of King&Capital Law Firm; Hua Yang, Director of the Dalian Branch of King&Capital Law Firm; Zheng Fei, Professor at the Institute of Evidence Science at China University of Political Science and Law and Advisor to the Civil and Commercial Litigation Research Center; Gong Piguo, Senior Partner at King&Capital Law Firm and Director of the Civil and Commercial Litigation Research Center; Zhao Qilong, Advisor to the Civil and Commercial Litigation Research Center; and Zang Desheng, Senior Partner at King&Capital Law Firm, Yang Hangsheng, Senior Partner at Beijing King&Capital Law Firm and Advisor to the Civil and Commercial Law Center, as well as dozens of lawyers from King&Capital Law Firm’s headquarters and various branch offices, participated in the seminar via both in-person and online formats. The meeting was chaired by Attorney Zhu Yuanxiao, Deputy Director of the Civil and Commercial Law Center and Deputy Director of the Corporate Litigation Practice Research Association.
Guest Remarks
Chu Changzhi delivered opening remarks for the seminar. He emphasized King&Capital Law Firm’s specialized and comprehensive strengths in the intersection of civil and criminal law, noting that the model—where branch offices provide case studies for collaborative discussion with the main office—holds landmark significance. He also expressed hope that young lawyers would gain valuable learning and professional growth through participation in such discussions on complex cases.
Attorney Zhu Yonghui reviewed the firm’s tradition of “Legal Roundtable” discussions and noted that this event exemplified King&Capital Law Firm’s strengths in specialization, comprehensive practice, and teamwork, as well as the mechanism for resource sharing between the main office and branch offices. He also encouraged making such discussions on complex cases a regular practice.
Attorney Gong Piguo noted that discussions on complex cases serve as a vital form of case study practice for the Civil and Commercial Law Research Center. Such sessions help case-handling attorneys refine their legal arguments and improve the quality of their representation, while also fostering the professional development and knowledge sharing among participating attorneys. He introduced the nine specialized research groups under the Civil and Commercial Law Research Center, stating that these groups can meet the needs for specialized discussions and diverse case studies.
Attorney Hua Yang noted that this event fully demonstrated the headquarters’ professionalism and support for branch offices, serving as an excellent opportunity for the headquarters and branches to collaborate and develop together. He expressed his hope for further strengthened communication and exchange between the headquarters and all branch offices in the future.

This seminar focused on two cases involving senior executives accused of harming corporate interests in the context of criminal-civil intersections. It featured in-depth discussions on complex issues such as the impact of facts established in criminal cases on related civil cases, the procedures for initiating shareholder derivative suits, the determination of related-party transactions, and the scope of the right of attribution. Attorney Bi Xiaodong, Partner at King&Capital’s Dalian Branch and Deputy Director of the King&Capital Civil and Commercial Law Center, provided a detailed overview of the cases under discussion and addressed questions raised by the attending experts and attorneys. Drawing on their respective areas of expertise, the experts and attorneys actively shared their insights both in person and online, responding to and discussing the complex issues raised by the handling attorneys. This collaborative effort gradually yielded seminar outcomes that embody the collective wisdom of King&Capital Law Firm, combining both theoretical legal depth and extensive practical experience.

Attorneys from the main office, branch offices, and other law firms may submit case materials to the Center after anonymizing them according to case requirements. The Center will organize various forms of discussions—including specialized research groups, Center committee meetings, firm-wide sessions, and expert consultations—to provide high-quality research outcomes.
